Benefits-eligible employees should use the HR Connection online enrollment system to enroll in healthcare, life and other insurance benefits. New employees must enroll in these benefits within 30 days of their hire date. If you are enrolling any eligible dependents in your coverage, supporting documentation that proves your relationship must be submitted within 30 days of their enrollment date, or they will be removed from your coverage.
Normally, changes to healthcare, life and other insurance benefits can only be made during the annual Open Enrollment period, unless you experience a qualified life/family status change.
You will need your Andrew username and password to access HR Connection, as well as the HR Connection password listed in your benefit enrollment instruction letter. If you have not received this mailing, please contact the Benefits Office. You will also need the names, birth dates and supporting documents for any dependents that you enroll.
In addition to enrolling in benefits, HR Connection can be used to make address changes, view benefits information or change your retirement contributions. There are separate enrollment procedures for the retirement plan.
Benefits eligibility depends on several factors, including:
- employment relationship (faculty, staff, union, etc.)
- status (regular or temporary)
- full-time or part-time appointment
- length of appointment (less than 4 months, 4 months or more)
- work location (Pittsburgh, California, Qatar, Australia, etc.)
Your appointment criteria are usually outlined in your appointment or hire letter. If you have questions concerning your appointment, please contact your department head or manager.
Normally, healthcare, life and other insurance benefit coverage become effective the first day of the month following your hire date. If you are hired on the first day of the month, eligibility begins on that day. For other benefits (i.e., Tuition and Long Term Disability), there are separate waiting period requirements. In addition, there are vesting rules for the Retirement Benefits.
