New Employees
Welcome New Faculty and Staff!
We are pleased that you have joined Carnegie Mellon. These first few days and weeks can seem overwhelming as you learn about the unique culture, processes and needs of the university and of your department. The resources in this section are intended to help you get acquainted with the university and become comfortable in your new role in our community.
- View our New Employee Orientation. (System requirements: Adobe Flash Player)
This orientation will help you get to know the university and what you need to do in your first few days and weeks. - Enroll in benefits and complete required forms within 30 days of your hire date. We have automated much of the enrollment process through HR Connection.
- Read the Intellectual Property Policy and sign the Intellectual Property Policy Agreement Form. The signed form should be given to your departmental administrator.
- Complete your Payroll Services forms, including W-4 form, direct deposit authorization and I-9 form. You will need the appropriate forms of identification in person at Payroll's UTDC office, 4516 Henry Street.
- Identify as a Vietnam era or disabled veteran or as a disabled individual through HR Connection's Demographics module, as well as confirming your tax and mailing address, emergency contact and other personal data.
- Complete the online Preventing Workplace Harassment course. You will be notified via email when you are registered to complete the training. Contact LDhelp@andrew.cmu.edu for program information.
- Take Required Safety Training from Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S). EH&S provides comprehensive safety programs, from fire safety to radioactive material handling in labs.
- Enroll in appropriate Learning and Development offerings. Many will help you get up to speed on university processes and systems.
