Welcome New Faculty and Staff!
We are pleased that you have joined Carnegie Mellon as a member of our faculty or staff. These first few days and weeks can seem overwhelming as you learn about the unique culture, processes and needs of the university and of your department. The resources in this section are intended to help you get acquainted with the university and become comfortable in your new role in our community.
- View our New Employee Orientation.

Please allow a few moments for video components to load. This orientation will help you get to know the university and what you need to do in your first few days and weeks. It will also provide many links to crucial information.
- Enroll in a benefits plan and complete required forms within 31 days of your hire. Carnegie Mellon is committed to providing a comprehensive benefits package. We have automated much of the enrollment process through HR Connection.
- Read the Intellectual Property Policy and sign the Intellectual Property Policy Agreement Form. The signed form should be given to your departmental administrator.
- Complete your Payroll Services forms, including W-4 form, direct deposit authorization and I-9 form. Be sure to present the appropriate forms of identification to satisfy the requirements of the I-9 form. Forms must be presented in person at their UTDC office, 4516 Henry Street.
- Complete the Preventing Sexual Harassment training within your first month of employment. This computer-based training session helps to ensure a respectful, productive work environment for all.
- Take a look at Learning and Development offerings. Many will help you get up to speed on university processes and systems. We offer seminars on financial and personnel systems, as well as professional and personal development programs.
- Photographs may be taken at official university events. University departments may use these photographs in promotional and departmental publications, web sites, and other promotional material without your pre-authorization. If you prefer not to have your photo taken at an event, simply inform the photographer.
