CMU Scott Institute presents: Intersection of Energy and Transportation Panel

Faculty will present the work currently at the intersection of transportation and decarbonization. Following the presentations, Karen Lightman (Executive Director, Metro 21) will moderate a panel discussion about their work, how the CMU community can get involved about those projects and initiatives, and Q&A with the audience.

Faculty Presenters:

Corey Harper is an Assistant Professor at CEE and Heinz School of Information Systems and Public Policy. In his role as the director of the Future Mobility Systems Lab, he leads a team of researchers who explore the infrastructure, policy, and equity implications of emerging transportation technologies (e.g., autonomous vehicles and micromobility).

Sarah Fox is an Assistant Professor in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, where she directs the Tech Solidarity Lab. Her research examines how technological artifacts challenge or propagate social exclusions. She holds a Ph.D. in Human Centered Design & Engineering from the University of Washington.

Sean Qian is a Full Professor jointly appointed at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (major) and Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy (minor) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). He directs the Mobility Data Analytics Center (MAC) at CMU.

Moderator:

Karen Lightman is an internationally recognized leader in building and supporting communities based on emerging technologies. Karen has expertise with commercializing academic research, building industry-based consortiums and strategically leading teams to explore market-based opportunities. Her diverse background spans the consumer, military, healthcare, manufacturing, and automotive sectors. Karen is ranked by EETimes as one of the top 25 “Women in Tech.” She is a passionate advocate and spokesperson for technology solutions to real-world problems and has held several board positions and is currently treasurer on the board of the MetroLab Network.
