CAS welcomes Matthew Gandy for the final speaker in this year’s CAS Speakers Series. In his talk “Zoonotic urbanization” Matthew Gandy will explore the relationships of urban space, extractive frontiers, and zoonotic diseases, considering how the framework of urban political ecology might be extended with respect to the shifting boundaries of the human and non-human. Matthew Gandyis Professor of Geography at the University of Cambridge and an award-winning documentary film maker. His books include Concrete and clay: reworking nature in New York City, The fabric of space: water, modernity, and the urban imagination, and Natura urbana: ecological constellations in urban space (all with the MIT Press).
