This immersive course explores the rich tradition of Arabic calligraphy, blending historical insights, cultural significance and hands-on practice. Designed for heritage speakers and students with prior knowledge of the Arabic alphabet, students will delve into the development of Arabic script, examining iconic calligraphy styles and their evolution over centuries.
As we examine calligraphy examples, participants will gain an appreciation for Islamic design and its aesthetic principles. In addition to mastering foundational techniques, students will experiment with two or three of the Six Pen Styles, exploring traditional and modern calligraphy approaches. By the end of the course, students will have a deeper understanding of Arabic calligraphy's cultural heritage and create artifacts that demonstrate how Arabic calligraphy shapes culture.
