Be sure to complete the tasks on your Onboarding Checklist so you can obtain an Andrew ID and CMU ID card, enroll in benefits (if eligible), and establish direct deposit and tax withholdings elections.
The Form I-9, E-Verify and Your Social Security Number
Form I-9 Requirement
Federal law requires employers to verify the identity and employment authorization of new employees using the Form I-9. You should complete the Form I-9 on your first day and no later than three days after your employment start date.
- Complete the Form I-9 task in Workday by your first day of employment.
- Present your required document(s) in person at the HR CMUWorks Service Center no later than three business days from your employment start date. For faster service, you are encouraged to make an appointment.
Depending on the project to which you are assigned, Carnegie Mellon University may be required to verify your employment eligibility using E-Verify.
Immigration Reform and Control Act Notice
All workers are required to provide Carnegie Mellon University with documents establishing personal identity and employment eligibility within three days of hire. Under federal law, failure to comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act will result in termination of employment.
Your Social Security Number
Your Social Security Number is required for accurate payroll processing and proper tax filing with federal, state and local tax authorities. If you receive a paycheck from CMU, then you must provide a Social Security Number, per federal law.
Please provide your Social Security Number as soon as possible by visiting the HR CMUWorks Service Center.
