Broadway NewsflashGiven the success of CMU alumni on Broadway, it comes as no surprise to the theatre world that the university has become the first exclusive higher-education partner of the Tony Awards.

During the live CBS broadcast of the most recent award ceremony, former classmates Matt Bomer (A’00) and Zachary Quinto (A’99) took center stage on behalf of CMU to jointly announce a new educators honor for 2015: “The Tony Honor for Excellence in Theatre Education presented by Carnegie Mellon University.” It will honor kindergarten through high-school theatre educators. Nominations are open to the public.

That wasn’t the only Tartan news during the evening. Jamie deRoy (A’67) took home her third Tony as a producer for the winner of the Best Musical, “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder."
