NF 12 V11n3As she goes to turn out her bedroom lights, the woman pauses. Just discharged from the hospital after surgery, she suddenly feels a twinge. Worried, she logs onto her computer. During her cyber-consult, she gets the answers she needs from a 24/7 computerized coach, which assesses her condition and relates the data to her doctors.

This scene is nearing reality. Carnegie Mellon’s Quality of Life Technology Center (QoLT) is developing technology that will improve patient outcomes and transitional care after discharge from the hospital. QoLT is doing so through a recently announced partnership with Henry Ford Institute, a venture development business unit of the Henry Ford Health System.
