When Lauren Eshbaugh and Jamie Burrows enrolled in Carnegie Mellon’s School of Music four years ago, they probably didn’t give much thought to their 2012 graduation year coinciding with the school’s 100th anniversary. Certainly, they didn’t realize that their story would become one for the ages.

Carnegie Mellon’s Chris Harrison has a breakthrough in the works that isn’t just on the table, it is the table … and the wall and your hand and anything else that’s within touching distance.

When Christopher Bettinger was young, he had it all figured out—where he’d go to school, what he’d study, the career he’d pursue. Before finishing high school, those plans changed. But his dream to save lives remained intact. Today, the Carnegie Mellon professor is developing technologies that could turn his dream into reality.
