What is Late Night?

The Late Night series of events is hosted by student organizations, university departments, and the Late Night advisor. Events take place on a Friday or Saturday night from 9pm-1am in/around the Cohen University Center (CUC). They aim to offer free, fun activities for Carnegie Mellon students.

Date: Saturday September 5th, 2015
Location: Merson Courtyard (outside Cohon Center)
Time: 9pm-1am *SPECIAL start time of 9pm!
Come and celebrate your first week at school getting to know all of the multicultural organizations on campus! The FIRST Late Night of the year, at a SPECIAL time! Free food, music, games, performances, & more from numerous multicultural organizations. Join Tanah, Raasta, Bhangra, SPIRIT, Mayur SASA, Project Rwanda, and more to come! With performances by Saans Acapella, Deewane Acapella, CMU Bhangra, CMU Raasta, CMU Tanah, and more to come!

Noche Latina

Time: 10pm-1am
Celebrate Latino/a Heritage Month with a Late Night celebration outside the Cohon Center! Habrá Baile. There will be dancing, learn how to salsa! Habrá Música. There will be music, with a LIVE mariachi band! Habrá Comida. There will be FREE food! Sponsored by: Late Night, Multicultural & Diversity Initiatives, Carnegie Mellon Advising Resource Center (CMARC), Spanish & Latin Student Association (SALSA), and Latin Graduate Student Association (LGSA).

Grilled Cheese Iron Chef

Ever hear of the Iron Chef Competition? Well, you can be in one of your very a grilled cheese! Organizations/Individuals around campus will face off, putting their grilled cheese concoctions to the test in a competition that will show the true mettle of everyone that dares to become the Grilled Cheese Iron Chef! Halloween Extravaganza

Fold Your Stress Away – Stressbuster

Finals are approaching, and it can be a stressful time! Come hangout at the Black Chairs Area in the Cohon Center for a night of relaxation with massages from massage therapists, handheld massages for foot, back, & more. FREE snacks & drinks, plus make some cool projects with Origami Club to fold your stress away! Sponsored by: Late Night, Peer Health Advocates (PHA’s), & Origami Club.

Interested in applying? Here’s what you need to know:

Starting in the fall semester, there will be 8 Late Night events per semester, with each event getting at least $500! The proposal form has been taken away, and an application has taken its place. When filling our your application to host/collaborate on a Late Night event, please be sure to be very detailed and intentional in your programming ideas. Be creative, think outside the box, and if your organization/department would be interested in hosting/collaborating on an event, but does not have an idea for one, reach out…Late Night has a list of some great possibilities! An application does not guarantee a Late Night event.

Late Night event requirements:
-Event must occur on a Friday or Saturday night during the fall or spring semester
-Event must fall within the 10pm to 1am timeframe
-Event can be anywhere in/around the CUC (can be outside of the CUC, i.e. Legacy Plaza, Merson Courtyard, The Cut, etc.)
-Event must be open to all CMU students
-Event’s primary purpose cannot be a fundraiser for your organization
-Admission cannot be charged for participation in the event

Preference is given to applications that exhibit:
-Funding from several sources
-Collaborative efforts from multiple organizations/departments
-A likelihood to attract a large number of students
-A unique, creative idea (Need some ideas…just ask!)

Benefits of hosting a Late Night:
-Up to $500 from the Late Night budget to support your event
-Increased awareness on campus of your organization(s) or department(s)
-Advising support from the Late Night advisor and Student Activities
