New Year Reminders for Faculty and Staff

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Happy 2010 New Year!  Due to a number of recent information security incidents, the Information Security Office (ISO) would like to remind everyone to contact the ISO via email at iso@andrew.cmu.edu or x8-2044, when:

  1. You or your staff is concerned about unauthorized access or inappropriate use of University computers, networks, applications, or electronic information.

  2. You are planning a class, research, or other activity that may appear suspicious to network monitoring. The ISO suspends computers from the network if they appear to be a threat to themselves, to the University's electronic information, or to other computing and networking resources.  A quick discussion can help avoid unnecessary service interruptions later.

  3. You need help interpreting information security policies, guidelines, or procedures.  The ISO maintains a variety of documents related to information security and appropriate use of University computing and networking resources.

  4. You are seeking a security awareness presentation for your staff, class, workgroup, or incoming student orientation.  Faculty and staff can register for the ISO's Spring training sessions through the HR Learning and Development site or by visiting the ISO Events web page.

  5. You would like assistance with protecting sensitive data or designing/testing the security of a system.  The ISO provides tools and services to help you secure your electronic information, applications, and computers.

As always, the ISO encourages you to visit the ISO Website at https://www.cmu.edu/iso for service descriptions, alerts, news, training events, polices and guidelines, and help with securing your computer.  For information on safe computing practices, please refer to Faculty & Staff Safe Computing Tips.

Have a great semester everyone!
