The Major in International Relations

The courses listed below are offered with general regularity. Participating departments may develop and offer other courses that are appropriate for the IR major. See the IR advisor if you have any questions.

Theories of International Relations
       
Modern Languages
  Demonstrate a basic competency in a foreign language via one of the following options:
 
  • Complete a Modern Languages course at the 200 level, with a minimum grade level of C; or
  • Achieve a score of 4 or higher on a foreign language Advanced Placement examination; or
  • Study Abroad programs which earn transfer credits equivalent to ML courses;
  • Demonstrate equivalent competency through exams administered by Modern Languages.

The aim is to achieve in-depth command of a non-US culture via study of its language, cultural and political history, and cultural products.
