"Concerning Any Violence Necessary"

This talk will place Walter Benjamin, Frantz Fanon and Malcolm X in conversation in order to derive a theory of violence that takes into account the realities of state-based violence and the complexity of defense, self or otherwise, for aggrieved subjects.
Professor Sawyer’s work offers a multi-disciplinary approach to studying the revolutionary potential of Black People and developing theories and philosophies of Sovereign Black Being. He has published two monographs, An Africana Philosophy of Temporality: Homo Liminalis (Palgrave: 2018) and Black Minded: The Political Philosophy of Malcolm X (Pluto: 2020).
