James R. Swartz Entrepreneurial Leadership Series

The James R. Swartz Entrepreneurial Leadership Series provides a forum for the Carnegie Mellon University community and its entrepreneurial network partners in Pittsburgh to discuss issues central to entrepreneurial leadership. The series brings to campus entrepreneurial thought leaders from centers around the country to exchange views on leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation in today’s competitive, global economy. Speakers include successful entrepreneurs, investors, and innovators who are focused on emerging and growing market sectors that are important for competitiveness in the global economy. All lectures are open to Carnegie Mellon faculty, students, staff and select guests.

Benchmark’s Eric Vishria joins Carnegie Mellon's Entrepreneurial Leadership Series to discuss the case for working at a startup, finding the right culture for you and translating big ideas into tangible successes. As a General Partner at one of the top VCs in Silicon Valley today, with early investments in Snapchat, Uber, Twitter, New Relic, Hortonworks, Zendesk and more - Eric will also share insights into entrepreneurial success, and what it takes to thrive in a competitive market.

Eric Vishria is a general partner at Benchmark, where he focuses on early stage startup investing, especially in infrastructure and enterprise software. Eric brings a long and varied background as an executive in technology startups and public companies, including consumer and enterprise, and across a range of functions including product, marketing and operations. Prior to joining Benchmark, he served as co-founder and CEO of RockMelt, which was acquired by Yahoo in 2013.

At Yahoo, he served as Vice President of Digital Magazines & Verticals. Eric started his career at just 19 when he became an early employee of Loudcloud (later known as Opsware), and he served as Vice President of Marketing through the company’s acquisition by HP in 2007, where he continued on to lead a half billion dollar product line in HP Software.

He earned his B.S. from Stanford University in Mathematical & Computational Science and a minor in Human Biology.
