Dr. Marsha Lovett serves as the vice provost for teaching and learning innovation at Carnegie Mellon University, where she is also a teaching professor in the Department of Psychology and a co-coordinator of The Simon Initiative. She oversees the Eberly Center for Teaching Excellence and Educational Innovation, the Core Competencies Initiative and CMU Online. In her role, she helps the university advance its strategic educational initiatives to meet our community’s evolving teaching and learning needs.
An expert in learning science, Dr. Lovett has published over 50 articles on learning and instruction. She has developed educational technologies to promote student learning and metacognition, including StatTutor and the Learning Dashboard. Her book “How Learning Works: 8 Research-Based Principles for Smart Teaching” translates learning research into practical teaching strategies for instructors.
