Celebrating Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month

A message from the Dean's Office.

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, a time in which we commemorate the contributions, culture, traditions, and history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.

Since 1978, when AAPI Heritage Month was established by a joint Congressional Resolution, communities have come together to celebrate. This May, I encourage you to do the same.

Did you know that Pittsburgh once had a thriving Chinatown, located downtown? Recently, Downtown Pittsburgh celebrated as Pittsburgh’s Chinatown neighborhood was finally and officially designated a historic landmark.

We’ve added additional educational materials to the Tepper Together resources page that offer a wide-ranging view of AAPI history, including more about the month itself and what you can do to show your support to — and celebrate the contributions of — Pan-Asian communities.

At the Tepper School, we are committed to creating and growing a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture and community that affords all students, staff, faculty, alumni, and business partners with a true sense of belonging. Together, we can create, impact, and sustain change.

Sincerely,
Isabelle Bajeux
