Tepper School of Business Extends Its Community and Career Resources During Uncertain Times

The Tepper School will host virtual events to share career expert insider advice and resources with those affected by downturns in the business community.

In response to recent downturns in the business community, Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business will host two panel discussions in December to offer support, advice, and insider expertise to those navigating unexpected changes in their careers.

“Here at the Tepper School of Business, we are committed to not only serving our Tepper community but the business community as a whole,” said Isabelle Bajeux-Besnainou, Dean of the Tepper School of Business. “We understand how challenging these uncertain times are and stand with you as a partner to face them. We are happy to extend our network’s expert support and insight so that we can continue to co-create the future landscape of business together.”

On Thursday, Dec. 15 at noon ET, experts from the Tepper School’s Career and Admissions teams will offer practical advice, resources, and insight about navigating career shifts, and how to plan for the next steps. From addressing employment gaps on a resume to putting together applications for a new opportunity or graduate program, this panel discussion will be packed with insider expertise and tips. This session will include Stephen Rakas, Executive Director of the Masters Career Center (MCC), Kathryn Riley, Director of the MCC, and moderated by J.R. McGrath, Executive Director of Masters Admissions.

On Friday, Dec. 16 at noon ET, a panel of Tepper School Alumni Board members will come together to share their experiences with navigating periods of turbulence in their respective industries. The discussion will be moderated by John Dischner (MSIA ’94, Managing Director, AlixPartners LLP). Attendees can expect insight from business leaders about how to best position themselves and pivot their careers so that they can confidently re-enter the job market or pursue formal education.

Other alumni will include:

  • Eduardo Tobon (MBA '00 Director, Economic Equity Advisory Group & Commercial Banking, BMO Harris Bank)
  • Krista Markert (MSIA ’97, Chief of Staff, VP, Business Operations, Absolute Software)
  • Cyanne Demchak (MBA '09, MS/HC '09, Chief Strategy Officer, Evernorth Care Delivery, a subsidiary of Cigna Corporation)
