FORTUNE Ranks Tepper Online MBA #3

FORTUNE launches new education hub with online MBA as the first of six higher education rankings to be published in 2021.

The Tepper School of Business Online MBA program ranks #3 in FORTUNE Education’s 2021 inaugural Best Business Schools rankings with University of North Carolina (Kenan-Flagler) at #1 and Indiana University (Kelley) at #2. FORTUNE launched its first-ever higher education ranking this year with its first (of six) ranking focusing on Online MBA programs.

Through conversations and surveys of prospective students and current business leaders, FORTUNE believes online MBA education is only going to get bigger. FORTUNE CEO Alan Murray explains why they decided to feature online MBA programs first. "During the pandemic year, two things happened that are propelling this new initiative. First, the speed of technological change—already head-spinningly fast—accelerated even more, underscoring the urgent need for programs that help workers acquire new skills to keep up with change. And second, digital access to everything expanded, making online education the dominant mode for lifelong learning."

The Methodology

FORTUNE considers the following categories for its ranking:
  • Program Score (55%), which includes measures on student quality (GMAT, GRE, GPA), retention and graduation rate, and student body size.
  • Fortune 1000 Score (17.5%), looking at the number of MBA program alumni who are on the Fortune 1000 list of executives.
  • Brand Score (20%), derived from interviews with those who hire MBA graduates.
  • Prestige Score (7.5%), an aggregation of online MBA rankings from Princeton Review, Poets & Quants, and US News.
