William Meaney (MSIA 1986)

william-meaney-squared.pngWilliam Meaney has led a noteworthy multinational career successfully consulting for, leading, and turning around companies around the globe.

He currently serves as president and CEO, as well as board director, of Iron Mountain, an S&P 500 information management and data center company with more than 27,000 employees across 63 countries. Since taking the helm in 2013, he has led Iron Mountain to impressive growth and transformation.

From 2004-2012, Meaney was CEO of The Zuellig Group, a $12 billion conglomerate based in Hong Kong where he tripled sales. Prior, he spent a number of years in the airline industry, including as chief commercial officer and managing director of Swiss International Airlines and EVP of South African Airways. Earlier, his roles ranged from principal at Strategic Planning Associates to CIA operations officer.

The New Hampshire native earned his bachelors in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He then spent two years with the CIA before coming to the Tepper School of Business to earn his master’s.

Meaney has demonstrated his commitment to the school by, among other things, serving on Carnegie Mellon University’s Board of Trustees, maintaining generous support, including the establishment of a scholarship fund, and returning to campus to speak.

“[The Tepper School] is all about finding the truth that will set you free - which is also engraved on the entrance wall at The Agency,” he said. “The integrity is through the analytics. If you come out of [The Tepper School], you're not afraid to do the hard work, to really understand the foundations of the issue or the business and then reassemble it and build it up right. That kind of deep analytical understanding with the work ethic to do it really is fundamental."
