Henry J. Gailliot (UBA 1964, MSIA 1965, Ph.D. 1973)

henry-gailliot-3.jpegHenry Gailliot, a Pittsburgh native, earned his undergraduate and master’s degree in industrial management as well as a Ph.D. in economics from the Tepper School of Business, where he was awarded the National Science Foundation Fellowship and the Federal Reserve Fellowship.

Following graduation, Gailliot enjoyed a distinguished career spent at Federated Investors, ultimately serving as the company's chief economist, president, and chairman before retiring in 1996.

Gailliot served on the Carnegie Mellon Board of Trustees from 1989, later becoming a life trustee. Among his many charitable contributions to Carnegie Mellon University, he established undergraduate business scholarships, MBA fellowships, and funding for the Tepper Quad Gailliot Classroom. 

He was honored with the 1993 Carnegie Mellon Alumni Service Award, the 1998 Carnegie Mellon Alumni Distinguished Service Award, and ultimately the 2022 Tepper Lifetime Service Award in recognition of his long-standing volunteer leadership and philanthropic support of the Tepper School, Carnegie Mellon, and numerous other Pittsburgh-area organizations, as well as a lifetime of outstanding career achievement.

“I have a long, long-time relationship with Carnegie Mellon and the Tepper School,” said Gailliot. “I cannot describe how great it was to work with the tremendous people at the Tepper School and Carnegie Mellon over a long period,” noting “the amazing education, the amazing contacts, and the incredible relationships with faculty members.”
