Welcome to a New Semester

Dear Graduate Students,

Welcome to a new semester at Carnegie Mellon! Whether you are a new or returning student, first or fifth year, located domestically or abroad, the Graduate Student Assembly (GSA) is here to support you with your personal, professional, and academic experiences at Carnegie Mellon. While we embark on this semester in a hybrid posture, we will continue our work to advocate and bring to you ways to connect with one another. We are here for you.

While this semester will again be different, we wanted to offer two ways that you can continue to engage with us and the Tartan Community. First, please see here for information on cultural student organizations at CMU. While not all of these clubs and organizations may be applicable or of interest to you, there are many more on CMU Bridge. We encourage you to check out the diverse set of organizations our community offers and reach out to them if you are interested in joining!

Second, we hope you join one of our GSA committees! Listed here are the internal committees that we are convening this semester. Each of the Vice Presidents leads a group of students through the year in advocacy and programming efforts. Please get in touch with the vice president heading the committee you are interested in. These committees are open to all graduate students.

During this semester, we need to continue to look out for one another. While we see hope with the arrival of different vaccines to protect against COVID-19, this is a community effort and we must band together. Continue to wear masks and socially distance when around others, complete the daily self-assessment, participate in contact tracing protocols when asked and the Tartan Testing Program when engaging with campus activities. Make sure to complete A Tartan’s Responsibility course on CANVAS (or the Refresher for returning students) to educate yourself on how to mitigate and prevent the spread to protect the health and safety of all Tartans.

Check here for continual COVID-19 updates.

To read more about the GSA, contact us, and learn about our resources, visit our GSA website! You will also be able to follow along with us on Instagram and Facebook as we post about upcoming events/news from us and other organizations and centers across campus.

While you begin the start of a fresh semester, I wanted to personally wish you all health, safety, and happiness. Please never hesitate to reach out to us!

Warmest Regards,

Josh Gyory

President, Graduate Student Assembly
