Don Carters Book

Metro21 Faculty, Don Carter Presents at City of Asylum

Metro21 faculty, Don Carter gave a presentation at the City of Asylum @ Alphabet City on his new book “Remaking Post-Industrial Cities.” The Pittsburgh Post Gazette was in attendance and reported on Carters book and presentation. The article goes into detail regarding his thoughts on post-industrial cities all over the world. Carter, Director of the Remaking Cities Institute at Carnegie Mellon, also goes into detail about the differences between gentrification and displacement, saying, “The problem is displacement, not gentrification, Pittsburgh is 90 neighborhoods. Let’s say three or four are encountering gentrification right now and people are wringing their hands about that.”

Never a dull moment with Carter who started his presentation with 'My City was Gone' about Akron, OH and ended it with Billy Joel's 'Allentown' to remind us that cities are much more than "rust belt cities"
