The Strategy team manages paid media and analytical insights for University Communications and Marketing. The team is responsible for establishing and coordinating measurements of key performance indicators (KPIs) in earned, owned and paid media, advancing Carnegie Mellon University’s brand.

Varun is a seasoned marketing strategist with a passion for driving digital excellence. With a decade-long journey in digital media strategy, he has consistently exceeded targets and set new standards. As the director of Strategy at Carnegie Mellon University, Varun oversees all strategy related marketing initiatives with a particular focus on data analytics. Over the course of his career, Varun has crafted a multitude of marketing strategies and spearheaded comprehensive training programs, arming marketing and executive teams with the prowess to harness data and insights effectively. Varun likes to play tennis and now is a retired professional video gamer. In his free time he loves spending time with his wife, two daughters and his two pupsters.

Digital Marketing Specialist

Jimmy Zackal joined CMU as the digital marketing specialist. Jimmy focuses on a variety of digital marketing initiatives for the university. He received a dual bachelor's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in communications media and journalism and a master's of business administration from PennWest California. In his free time, he enjoys many outdoor adventures and spending time with his wife and their two cats.
