IE&P at the 2026 AI and Data Analytics Summit
The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning (IE&P) was proud to partner with
Computing Services in support of Carnegie Mellon University's inaugural AI and Data
Analytics Summit on June 3, 2026. The event brought together faculty and staff from
across the university to explore this year's theme, "Intelligence at Scale: Driving a
Human-Centered Future with AI and Data Analytics," highlighting innovative ways AI,
analytics, and data-informed decision-making are shaping the future of higher
education.
IE&P staff were well represented throughout the day, sharing expertise, leading
discussions, and helping make the event a success.
Matt Hoolsema, Director of Data Science and Advanced Analytics, co-led the AI and
Data Analytics Summit Cup with colleague Alexis Parker. This showcase and awards
session celebrated innovative applications of AI, analytics, and data storytelling at CMU.
Matt was also available in our Makerspace Sandbox breakout session to demonstrate
the university’s newest Chatbot, a joint effort between IE&P and Computing Services.
Malak Alseaf, Papion Guice, and Doug Stouch joined colleagues Chelsea Horne and
Nicholas France in a breakout session to present a Power BI Showcase, demonstrating how data visualization and reporting tools can empower users to explore data, gain
insights, and support informed decisions.
A third breakout session presented by Shannon Foster, Kirby Livingston, and Madison
Speck Madison shared their work to use GenAI to engage stakeholders, with their use
of Notebook LM to better understand assessment findings.
Melissa Baker, Assistant Vice Provost for Institutional Research and Analysis served as
emcee for the summit, helping guide attendees through a full day of presentations,
workshops, and networking opportunities.
We were especially excited to celebrate Doug Stouch's success as a member of the
winning team in the inaugural AI and Data Analytics Summit Cup, a competition that
challenged participants to use AI and analytics to uncover insights and tell compelling
data stories. The Summit Cup showcased the creativity, collaboration, and analytical
expertise that continue to strengthen CMU's data community.
Congratulations and appreciation to all of our IE&P colleagues who contributed their
time, expertise, and leadership to this exciting inaugural event. We are proud to have
partnered with Computing Services to help bring the AI and Data Analytics Summit to
life and look forward to continuing to support CMU's growing AI and data analytics
community.
