Battery Charger Recall Alert

A fire incident recently occurred in one of our laboratories that involved a battery charger which had been recalled by the manufacturer. The battery charger used was an HTRC C240 Duo manufactured by Shenzhen Haitan Technology Co. Ltd. This charger was confirmed to have been subject to a product safety warning notice by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on 07/03/2024 and subsequent manufacturer recall on 12/04/2024. There have been 32 reports of fire or other thermal incidents involving these chargers and 148 additional reports related to other HTRC products. Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) highly encourages all faculty, staff and students who may utilize similar battery chargers to check their inventory for this product. If found, it should be immediately removed from service and disposed of via: https://erm-forms.andrew.cmu.edu/secure/ALERT-Online/combo.aspx.

EHS would like to remind everyone that batteries, chargers and related accessories should be purchased from reputable sources whose products have passed safety testing and certification by a nationally recognized testing laboratory such as the Underwriters Laboratories (UL).
