Bio

Alexandre Mateus is the Head of the Digital Trade sector in the Directorate General for Trade of the European Commission. He held various positions at the European Commission since 2011, including the post of Head of the Economic and Trade Section of the Delegation of the European Union in Peru between 2020 and 2023. He was also a trade negotiator, both in bilateral free trade agreements as well as in multilateral negotiations at the WTO, in the areas of Digital Trade and Telecommunications. Alexandre completed his doctoral studies in Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University in 2011. He holds a master's degree in management of technological innovation and a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from the Technical University of Lisbon (Portugal).
