Bio

A literary and intellectual historian of the Caribbean, Dr. Marlene Daut writes about the history of the Haitian Revolution, literary cultures of the greater Caribbean, and racial politics in global media, especially as appears in art, film, and television. She is the author of Tropics of Haiti: Race and the Literary History of the Atlantic World, 1789-1865; Baron de Vastey and the Origins of Black Atlantic Humanism; and co-editor of Haitian Revolutionary Fictions: An Anthology. Her next book, Awakening the Ashes: An Intellectual History of the Haitian
Revolution, is forthcoming in fall 2023 with the University of North Carolina Press.
