About the Center for Black European Studies and the Atlantic (CBESA)

The Center for Black European Studies and the Atlantic is a crucial tool to highlight the transatlantic circulations and (dis)continuity between Black Europe, Africa and the Americas.
Research and educational programs will tie these trends to history, politics and policy making through conferences; the production of edited volumes and other scholarly publications; postdoctoral fellowships; the constitution of the first-ever electronic database on Blackness in Europe and a number of activities to foster and strengthen collaboration between scholars, educators, policy makers and communities worldwide.

Projects include:
  • Speaker series
  • Electronic database on Black Europe
  • Launch of the Journal of Black European Studies
  • Partnerships with universities and research centers
  • Development of programs aimed at educators, policy makers and the community at large in Pittsburgh.
