The Whitney Biennial has become a leading measure of contemporary art in America. And by that measure, one of the leading producers of influential contemporary artists is Carnegie Mellon’s School of Art. The 72nd Biennial, held earlier this year at the Whitney Museum of American Art in Manhattan, featured another strong showing by our alumni, reinforcing the School of Art’s position at the forefront of the nation’s contemporary art scene.

Carnegie Mellon artists featured at the Whitney in recent shows include Mel Bochner (A’62), John Currin (A’84), Katie Grinnan (A’92), Jonathan Borofsky (A’64), Joyce Kozloff (A’64), Philip Pearlstein (A’49), Andy Warhol (A’49) and faculty member Golan Levin.
