Forty minutes from the lush countryside of Scotland lies the vibrant and energetic city of Glasgow. Bustling among the museums, theaters, and cafes, the residents there are a culturally diverse mix. Woven into this mix are 26,000 University of Strathclyde students. Among those students last fall was one from Carnegie Mellon.

Greg Gaudio can thank the increasing prominence of investigative journalism for his semester in Glasgow. A recent collaboration between Strathclyde and Carnegie Mellon has produced a new and unique degree program in the Department of English giving students the opportunity to learn investigative reporting while honing their writing skills. Gaudio is the first recipient of this master's degree in investigative journalism, which extends the MA professional writing degree to include study at Strathclyde in investigative journalism and a substantive investigative project completed back in Pittsburgh. After earning his degrees last May, Gaudio is now an intern with the metro desk of The Washington Post.
