Stumbling through words that are awkwardly foreign to her, a second-grader beams a toothy grin at her Carnegie Mellon volunteer student tutor, who patiently guides her through a difficult passage in a book. This is a typical success story for students, faculty, and staff who spend more than 88,000 hours each year volunteering in the Pittsburgh community. Their generous spirit recently led to the university being named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
