Americans think about energy every day, whether filling the gas tank, buying energy-efficient lightbulbs, installing solar panels, or paying utility bills. Carnegie Mellon alumnus Joseph Hezir (E’72, HNZ’74) happens to think about energy even more than most, specifically the money involved in all of America’s energy production and use. Confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Department of Energy’s CFO last December, he now manages finances behind the department, whose mission is to address the nation’s “energy, environmental, and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions.”
