Tucked away on Carnegie Mellon’s Pittsburgh campus is Miller Gallery. There, curator Astria Suparak “supports experimentation that expands the notions of art and culture.” The exhibition running through February 24 is a case in point. “Imperfect Health: The Medicalization of Architecture” examines the complexity of today’s interrelated and emerging health problems juxtaposed with a variety of proposed architectural and urban solutions. Such thought-provoking views caught the attention of the Independent Vision Curatorial Award judges. Suparak was recently named one of the 15 nominees which include independent curators and major museum staffers working in a dozen different countries.
