If you expect a stereotypical academic chemist when you meet E. Gerald Meyer, you'll be in for a surprise. This University of Wyoming professor emeritus of chemistry and former dean of UW's College of Arts and Sciences collects Western American art, sports bolo ties, and is both an avid jogger and Harley rider. Meyer (E'40 '42) has found time to hold 14 patents and to publish numerous articles. He has served on the national council of the American Chemical Society (ACS) for 27 years, helping found its Rocky Mountain Region. It's no surprise to anyone who knows Meyer that the society recently decided to recognize him with its greatest honor-the ACS fellow distinction. Meyer joined the 2010 class of fellows as one of 192 distinguished scientists worldwide who have made outstanding accomplishments in the field, as well as key contributions to ACS.
