Although it may be true that Carlos Guestrin—an up-and-coming assistant professor of computer science and machine learning at Carnegie Mellon—may not have as many years under his belt as some of his peers, that actually worked to his advantage recently. He was named a recipient of a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, one of only 100 recipients nationwide. Guestrin received his award at a fall ceremony at the White House.
