Not long ago, Newsweek Magazine named Carnegie Mellon the hottest place to find young talent.

That followed a Wall Street Journal survey in which corporate recruiters named us No. 2 in the nation as a place where they want to recruit.

Jobs are always a hot topic with college students, as well as their parents, who are making a substantial investment in their children's employment future. So, in this issue of Carnegie Mellon Today, we offer a sampling of the job fortunes for some recent grads. Their stories underscore the reasons that job recruiters keep flocking to this campus, even in a declining job market.

Recruiters tell us our graduates "hit the ground running" because of great attitudes and terrific work ethics. But even more importantly, they're highly sought after because they work well with people from other disciplines. As companies continue to integrate functions for better performance, this is an increasingly valuable quality for job market entrants to have.

The trend for students in several of our colleges is to get not one, but four or five job offers. That validates our general teaching approach, which is based on a campus-wide culture of collaboration, both among researchers and among students.

Since graduation for the Class of 2005 is just around the corner, we thought we'd give you a glimpse of how our young people are prospering. We hope it will give you the same sense of pride we have.
