School of Music graduate Gary Kline (A ’89) has released his first CD featuring duets with famous Carnegie Mellon alumni such as Billy Porter (A ’89) and Patrick Wilson (A ‘94), song and jazz legends Margaret Whiting and Joe Negri, and a cast of music school students singing back-up vocals.

The CD, entitled “Lucky,” includes 13 selections covering a mixed bag of musical styles—jazz, pop, folk and a few American standards. It features the world premiere of Negri’s song “I saw a Robin this Morning,” Whiting's only recording of “Send in the Clowns” and a medley with colleague Claudia Benack (A ’80 ’83) based on the popular “Cheek to Cheek.” Jerry Dantry (A ’71) served as music director. Kline, an associate teaching professor, has taught voice and music theater at the School of Drama since graduating from the university. His vocal career has run the gamut, from opera to oratorio, from cabaret to musical theater. His regional theater credits include leading roles in “Man of La Mancha,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Evita.” Kline has sung with the Pittsburgh Pops under Marvin Hamlisch, the Pittsburgh Symphony, Wheeling Symphony and Pittsburgh Opera. “Lucky” is available at the Carnegie Mellon Bookstore and at Pittsburgh area Borders Books and Music stores. The CD is available in New York City at the Colony Record Store on Broadway and 49th. You can also order the CD directly from Kline at gk16@andrew.cmu.edu.
