New Students - Enrollment, Orientation, Information

This website will be updated over the Summer of 2025. In the meantime, refer to the First-Year Orientation Checklist and the following information:

  1. By mid-June, admitted Music students will receive via their CMU email addresses a welcome message, a student survey, and general information about the School of Music.

  2. At the same time, students will receive an invitation to join the Incoming First-Year Student CMU Music Canvas site. The Canvas site will include further information about their first semester of study at CMU and the School of Music.

  3. By late July/early August, students will take placement exams in Harmony and Solfege. Additional information will follow via email and the First-Year Canvas site.

  4. By mid-August, all incoming Music students are pre-registered for all required courses in their first fall semester. Students will be notified once their schedules are available to view in SIO.

  5. Students may email Kate Ganczarz, kganczar@andrew.cmu.edu, Senior Academic Advisor, with questions after placement exams and registrations are complete in August.
