Irene Fonseca has received a prestigious appointment to a mathematics advisory board at a Swiss institution

Irene Fonseca has been appointed to an advisory committee at Switzerland's École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) to improve and expand that institution's mathematics program. Fonseca is one of eight prestigious mathematicians from outside universities on the advisory committee, which is charged with recommending fields of study within the EPFL’s mathematics program to strengthen, reduce or eliminate. The committee also will propose a strategy to recruit talented faculty. Fonseca is the Mellon College of Science Professor of Mathematics and Director of the Center for Nonlinear Analysis at Carnegie Mellon.
