What It Means to be French
Mame-Fatou Niang, assistant professor of French and Francophone Studies, “is a passionate and charismatic teacher,” said Susan Polansky, head of the Department of Modern Languages.
Niang, who joined the department in 2012, studies cultural minorities in France, with a focus on French people of African and Muslim descent. Both inside and outside the classroom, Niang explores the question of what it means to be French today.
