Peer Tutoring

There is no Walk-In tutoring for the Summer Term

Standing Tutoring Appointment

If you have tried all of the above services and still require more assistance, you can request a standing tutoring appointment. Read our Attendance Policy below to find out how standing appointments work. Then come in to the Academic Development office in Cyert Hall, Suite B5 to fill out a Tutoring Request Form. We'll do our best to find you a tutor as quickly as possible.
Please note that standing tutoring appointments may involve small group tutoring — individual tutoring appointments (one tutor per student) are not guaranteed.

Standing Appointment Attendance Policy

This service is intended to help students who need more individualized assistance than other resources can provide and/or those who need help with a course that is not supported via our other services.
Standing appointments are an on-going weekly commitment. Students meet with tutors once a week for one hour at a set time. If you cannot make this weekly commitment, then a standing appointment is not for you.
In order for us to keep this service free and available to as many students as possible, and in order for you to get the most out of your standing appointment, we ask you to observe the following:

Attendance:
  1. You should make every attempt to attend each regularly scheduled session on time.
  2. If you need to cancel, please give your tutor at least twenty-four hour’s notice.
Preparation:
  1. Before the session, read and study your text and lecture notes. Jot down specific questions for your tutor.
  2. If you have questions on homework problems, be sure to attempt the assignment on your own first. Highlight specific problem areas for your tutor.
  3. Bring your text, notes, and all other necessary materials to every tutoring session.
  4. Be sure to take advantage of other resources – Professor/TA office hours, walk-in tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, etc.
Expectations:
  1. Your tutor is available to assist you with specific questions on course concepts and problems. They are not lecturers and cannot preview or re-teach broad material.
  2. Tutors will employ strategies and techniques to help you address your questions and problems with the material on your own. They cannot give out answers, nor can they do your homework for you.
  3. Tutoring sessions are not a replacement for going to lecture and recitation. In the event that you drop your course or no longer require a standing appointment, please inform your tutor as soon as possible.

If you cancel and/or no-show three (3) times during a semester, we reserve the right to cancel your appointment permanently for the term.
