Metro21 Executive Director Talks about AI and Potholes in Axios

Poor road conditions are involved in thousands of traffic-related deaths annually. This week, Axios featured an article written by Metro21: Smart Cities Institute Executive Director, Karen Lightman, highlighting new ways to use technology to address this important issue.

In her piece, Lightman discusses the progress and potential in using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to detect and address infrastructure issues on the road, listing four projects that are already underway. Using the same technology being developed for autonomous vehicles to avoid hazardous road conditions, and the subsequent data generated, municipalities can track, prioritize and address infrastructure concern, making their roads a safer place.
