Closing the Digital Divide

As universities work together to close the digital divide, Metro21 Executive Director Karen Lightman continues to work through solutions to make broadband equitable and accessible for all.

In a recent interview with Government Technology, Karen discusses the recent partnership with Meta Mesh Wireless Communities, as well as the recent broadband study and Connectivity Roadmap, to outline the steps that need to be taken so that everyone has affordable broadband access.

“The issue is the actual physical infrastructure and devices that need to be installed, powered and kept safe,” she said. “That then gets into the issue of equitable fiber.”
