Metro21 Lunch and Learn: Monitoring Infrastructure

Metro21's Lunch and Learn, "Monitoring Infrastructure," explored the challenges and solutions to current and future infrastructure monitoring.

Infrastructure maintenance and investment necessitates effective monitoring strategies and technologies.  To better understand how infrastructure is currently being maintained, practitioners must seek out reliable and objective data.  Challenges for monitoring include the massive size and scope of US infrastructure, as well as the need for specialized knowledge to produce efficient maintenance plans utilizing monitoring data, drones and remote sensors.  Panelists from Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, and the spin-off company Roadbotics, Inc. will join moderator Karen Lightman, Executive Director of Metro21, for a discussion of current and future infrastructure monitoring.
