When Cities and Local Universities Work Together, They Achieve More Than They Could Alone

Metro21 Executive Director Karen Lightman knows the importance of partnerships between local universities and cities to keep making forward progress in innovation in subjects ranging from new technology to climate change, and everything in between - and cities can capitalize on the knowledge and research capabilities from these institutions.

"These partnerships are a 'win-win' scenario," said Karen Lightman, Executive Director of Metro21: Smart Cities Institute at Carnegie Mellon University.  "It's free advice for the city to take or leave.  City-university collaboration gives researchers an opportunity to do something that's meaningful and real-world based."
