Senior Director, Reputation & Issues Management
Chuck Carney plans strategies and implements tactics to communicate about current and emerging issues that pose a reputational risk to the university, serving as a primary spokesperson across all media. Carney joined CMU from Indiana University (IU) where he was university spokesperson and director of Media Relations. While at IU, he served as director of Communications for the IU School of Education and the Hamilton-Lugar School of Global and International Studies. He was also a journalist, working as a reporter and anchor in commercial and public television news in Arkansas, Florida and Indiana. Carney taught public relations writing, crisis communications and journalism at IU, the University of Arkansas and the University of Florida. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Arkansas and a Ph.D. in higher education from IU.
