Pittsburgh Consortium for Rhetoric and Discourse Studies Co-Sponsors Upcoming Local Symposium
The Pittsburgh Consortium for Rhetoric and Discourse Studies, partially funded by the Department of English at Carnegie Mellon University, is co-sponsoring the upcoming one-day symposium, "Engaging the Public: Rhetoric and Professional Writing in the 21st Century." The event will be held at Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, PA, on Saturday, October 1, from 9 am to 5 pm.
The symposium provides a forum for scholars, students, and professionals in rhetoric, communication, and technical/professional writing to learn about and discuss a range of issues related to scientific and policy communication.
English Department professors James Wynn and Linda Flower will speak at the symposium, with James presenting as part of a panel of the rhetoric of science and Linda presenting the keynote address, "Leadership and the Professional Writing: Calling a Community Think Tank." Additionally, the program includes Jeri Spann, Senior Policy Writer for Spann Communications; Ann Gibbons, contributing correspondent for Science magazine; and multiple rhetoric, communications, and professional writing scholars from West Virginia University, the University of Pittsburgh, and Washington & Jefferson College.
