Bio

John joined Carnegie Mellon University in December 2017 as associate vice president and treasurer. In this role, he is responsible for the management of external and internal debt portfolios, treasury operations and merchant services. In addition, John directs the use of appropriate financing and funding options to meet the university’s financial goals and enhance CMU’s financial resources through effective liquidity and financial risk management.

Prior to joining the university, John served as the deputy director for the Office of Debt Management where he was responsible for the funding strategies and new debt securities for the U.S. Treasury Department, managed a $14 trillion debt portfolio, and represented Treasury internationally with investment banks, credit rating agencies and global investors. He previously held the treasury officer position with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, managing short-term funding and investments for the bank, and worked for the City of Cleveland assisting in the management of the city’s investment portfolio.

Education

John holds an undergraduate degree in finance from Tiffin University, a master’s degree from Xavier University and the Certified Treasury Professional designation.
