Carnegie Mellon University

About Our Faculty

Housed in the Department of Philosophy at Carnegie Mellon University, the Center for Ethics and Policy is comprised of faculty with primary appointments at institutions throughout the Pittsburgh region, including the University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, and UPMC. Representing eight distinct departments across CMU and drawing from programs in not only the humanities but also Palliative Care, Nursing, Critical Care, and other medical specialties at sister institutions, the CEP is fundamentally interdisciplinary in nature.

Center faculty hold appointments on numerous national and international advisory boards, committees, and working groups, and have served as ethics experts in contexts spanning medicine, research, economic development, political conflict, and humanitarian crises. Faculty members have received grants from NIH, NSF, the MacArthur Foundation, Humanity United, and Oak Foundation, among others.
