BLACK EUROPE 2026 is a two-day conference that looks at Blackness as a generative place without which Europe itself cannot be understood. Bringing together scholars, artists and institutions from across the continent, the conference asks what becomes visible when Black experiences and intellectual traditions are understood as part of the making of Europe itself.

The first day (Friday October 2) is a collective working session devoted to taking stock of the field and imagining the structures needed for its future. The second day (Saturday, October 3)  brings our panelists into conversation, highlighting initiatives from Romania and Poland to Italy, Sweden and beyond. All Saturday panels are free and open to the public. The conference will also mark the launch of the Journal of Black European Studies and of “Beatriz Nascimento: Pour une Feminotheque de l’Atlantique Noir
